A year ago today (April 14, 2010)...

I had successful brain surgery.

I can't believe it's been a year.

I CAN believe how good God's been to me and my family.

August already?

I can't believe it's August already. I realize I haven't been updating my blog much but there's a good reason for it: I'm back at work!

Many thanks to all of you who prayed for and supported me and my family during my recovery time. Also, thanks to many of you who expressed sincere condolences for my Mother's passing. She had stage 4 lung cancer, and she finally succumbed to it. We love her dearly and will miss her greatly. The best thing we can do as a family is live life to the fullest because she loved watching us do exactly that.

Honor - Memorial Day 2009

I had a consuming desire to visit Mountain View Cemetery (http://www.mountainviewcemetery.org) in Oakland today, Memorial Day 2009. There's a special plot dedicated to the Union soldiers who fought in the Civil War. To see markers from the 1800's was a stunning reminder of the continuing and enduring sacrifice of the men and women serving us in our military institutions. I am so happy to be an American.

It's the little things in life....

I needed some pampering but I didn't want to break my bank for it. I Googled 'massage school' (yeah, I know what you're thinking!) and found www.nhi.edu here in the Bay Area. I know beauty and culinary schools offer discounts on their services if you are a guinea pig for them, so I wondered if there was the same opportunity for a massage. There WAS!

National Holistic Institute offers a massage clinic where students practice what they're learning on you. The best part? The price! A 50-minute massage was only $35!! A few caveats: you can't choose the type of massage (Swedish or shiatsu - I had shiatsu), you can't specify the gender of your masseuse, and you are not in a private room. The room reminded me of an emergency room at a hospital: beds with curtains separating all the treatment areas. Quiet music played, my therapist was very professional, and I came away refreshed and rejuvenated.

I highly recommend this for those of you who don't want to break the bank but want to treat
their mothers to something special. (Mother's Day is in a few days, everyone!) They also offer gift cards.

This is why I like the internet....

If you look at the comments below, you'll see an entry from Trudi Gardner. Turns out she's seeing my doctor for the same condition. SMALL WORLD!!!

I'm doing well. My hair is growing back and I've mastered the combover. I have a greater appreciation for those who are follically challenged. :D

This is what I woke up to this morning:

I was so surprised to find this on my nightstand. Dave went outside to the backyard, cut this rose, and put it in a vase just for me! He takes such good care of me. I love you, Dave!

How Ironic

THIS is funny!

My wonderful husband Dave asked me what I wanted for dinner last night. I said I have a hankering for Chinese food.....princess prawns, specifically. He runs down to Sunflower, the local Chinese food place, and he comes home with some yummy treats.

After dinner I open my fortune cookie, THIS is what I found:

We both had a huge laugh over this. :D
